GA PRESBYTERY SESSION ELECTS NEW CHAIRPERSON AND LAY REPRESENTATIVE

Accra, Ghana – April 19, 2024

The Presbytery Session has elected a new Chairperson and Presbytery Lay Representative, respectively, in a highly contested election held on 18th April, 2024. The election, which took place at the Abokobi Women’s Centre during the 2024 Presbytery Session, saw a total of 119 voters casting their ballots to determine the new leadership of the Presbytery.

In the election for a Chairperson Rev. Col. David Adoteye-Asare emerged victorious with 65 votes, representing 55.56% of the total votes cast. Rev. Gideon B. Puplampu pulled 35 votes (29.91%), and Rev. Erasmus Mensah Laryea, secured 17 votes (14.53%).

Rev. Col. David Adoteye-Asare, has served the Church in various capacities and is widely respected for his wisdom and vision. His election as Chairperson is seen as a significant milestone in the history of the Presbytery Council.

In the Presbytery Lay Representative election, by policy of the Church, it is the turn of Ga presbytery to elect a female Lay Representative to the General Assembly Council. Three people, namely Dr. Mrs. Regina Mensah Onuma, Mrs Christy Badu and Mrs Eunice Ocloo were nominated. Dr Mrs Onuma Mensah and Mrs Christy Badu stepped down, and by acclamation Mrs. Eunice Naa Yeye Ocloo was elected unopposed, . Mrs. Ocloo, a dedicated member of the Church, has been actively involved in various church activities and is known for her passion and commitment to the growth and development of the Church. She is currently the Lay Rep for the Sebrepor District.

The election was conducted by a team of selected members, led by Rev. Dr. Yaw Danso, and included Rev. Holtsborne Okantey, Rev. Nii Teiko Dagadu, Mrs. Nana Aba Adom-Malm, Mr. Gideon Lamptey, and Mr. Samuel Tetteh Narh. The team ensured a free and fair election process, and the results were widely accepted by all.

The new leadership is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Church and addressing the challenges facing the Presbytery.  They will assume office on 1st September, 2024. The Church congratulates the newly elected leaders and wishes them God’s guidance and wisdom in their new roles.
