Centenary Celebration: National Commemorative Tree Planting Exercise

By the grace of God, this event took place on the compound of the Eben-Ezer Congregation at Osu in the Ga Presbytery yesterday, 26/9/2021. The congregation is also the birthplace of the Children’s Service in November 1921.

The ceremony, which was under the watchful eyes of the National Director of CLAN was started with CS 2 and followed with prayer by Rev Nii Teiko Dagadu, the Osu District Minister and the First General Secretary of the erstwhile Children’s Desk. The Clerk of the General Assembly (Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor) then paid glowing tributes to the founders, pioneers, past teachers and all members of the  Children’s Service who have contributed to keep the service growing from strength to strength. He also thanked God for their lives and prayed that the current members and teachers would emulate their good examples and do even better. He then planted the first seedling.

He was followed by the Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery (Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye), the National Director of CLAN (Rev. Esther Oduro),  a representative of the families of the founders/pioneers of the Service (Mad. Angelina Adzei, daughter of Rev E. A. Adzei), four representatives of Children’s Service members, District Minister of Osu (Rev. Nii Teiko Dagadu), Representatives of the National Council of Children’s Service Teachers and finally, the President of Osu Eben-Ezer Children’s Service teachers (Mrs Ruth Asiedu), in that order. Each of them reiterated the tributes paid initially to the founders/pioneers and the subsequent teachers and members of the Service, in their own ways. A seedling was left for the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to plant on his return from his official pastoral tour.

The National Director of ESR (Rev Nii Armah Ashittey) said the closing prayer and the Clerk of the General Assembly gave the benediction.

Other dignitaries at the event were the National Director of DSS (Mrs.Teiko Sabah), the Clerk of the Ga Presbytery (Rev Nii Mensah Adjei), some Ministers and Presbyters of Osu Eben-Ezer Congregation, the National Treasurer of the Children’s Service Teachers (Mrs Emelia Nortey), some members of the Ga Presbytery Executives of the Children’s Teachers’ Council and some Children’s Service members and teachers of the host congregation.

It was a very memorable occasion.
