Rt. Rev. Cephas Narh Omenyo Takes Over As The 17th Moderator

 

At a special handing-over service held at the Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Very Rev. Prof. Martey has officially handed-over to the Rt. Rev. Prof. Cephas Omenyo as the 17th Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

The special but short ceremony attracted hundreds of Clergymen and church members from both far and near. The Very Rev. Dr. Sam Prempeh, former Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCG, Rev. Dr. Charles Gyan Duah, former Clerk of GAC, Rev. Herbert Anim Opong, immediate past Clerk of GAC and now the Chairperson of the North America/Australia Presbytery of the Church were part of the past Principal Officers of the Church who graced the occasion

Also present at the service were the General Assembly Council Members, well wishers and family members of the Rt. Rev. Prof. Omenyo.

Address

The Very Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey in a short handing over address thanked the entire church for the support over the past six years of his leadership as the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. Noting that the successes chalked over the years were as a result of the unflinching support and cordial working relationship he received from the General Assembly Council and the working staff at the GAC office.

He said the Presbyterian Church of Ghana  is stronger today than ever, due to the infrastructural development the church has enjoy under his leadership and also due to the spiritual rekindling growth in both the clergy and the laity.

The Very Rev. Prof. Martey added that the PCG cannot strive on this achievement without taking a serious look into spiritual things from above (God).

He reminded the new Moderator of the fact that people will try to persuade the leadership of the church to sell its birth-right to Political Parties, hence he the Rt. Rev. Prof. Omenyo should not give in to that, but help to lead the Church in the direction of God.

“I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you to stand firm against all oars and forces that will come against you as the Moderator of the oldest continuously existing church, which is the Presbyterian Church of Ghana”, he stressed.

The Rt. Rev. Prof. Cephas Narh Omenyo for his part addressing the gathering, noted that he has accepted the responsibility God and the church have committed to him, adding that in the hope of God he will serve diligently to the glory of God.

He thanked his predecessors for the strong foundation they have laid for him to work on, saying that he will always be guided by the churches constitution and the Word of God to rule as a true servant of God.

Rt. Rev. Prof. Omenyo stated that as a man coming from a Academia, which is the University of Ghana, he is coming into office with discipline and order, hence his called on the Clergy especially to be corroborative.

He called on all and sundry to support him and his family in prayers, so that what the good Lord has prepared for the PCG through him will be attained to the glory of God.

The Very Rev. Dr. Sam Prempeh ushered the Rt. Rev. Prof. Omenyo to take his seat in his office, prayed for God’s divine protection and direction for him and called on the church to support him as he officially takes over at the 17th Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

The Rt. Rev. Prof. Cephas Narh Omenyo was elected the 17th Moderator at Abetifi Kwahu during the 16th General Assembly of the Church.

He polled 116 votes to emerge as the new moderator. He toppled his two main contenders, the Rev. Prof. J.O.Y Mante who polled 60 votes and Rev. Herbert Anim-Opong who managed to poll 26 votes.
