New Abeka District Minister Inducted

The premises of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Royal Priesthood Congregation-Abeka, was filled to capacity with well-wishers, sympathizers, family and friends who witness the induction service of Rev. George Nortey Odonkor, formerly Minister in-charge of the Gethsemane Congregation in the Adabraka District of the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Rev. George Nortey Odonkor, took over from the Rev. M. G Anim Tetey, who is currently the District Minister of the Madina District in the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Giving his sermon, the Ga Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Victor Okoe Abbey encouraged Rev. G. N. Odonkor and his family to be courageous as Joshua in the Bible was.

Basing his message on the theme: “The Christ opens the eyes of the Blind”the Chairperson of the Presbytery reminded the inductee that it was God who called him and not man adding that his (Rev. G. N. Odonkor) allegiance must be to God alone.

Rev. Odonkor as well as all others in the ministry were advised to follow the job description given to them by God and not pursue their own parochial interest.

Rev. Victor Okoe Abbey intimated that God was able to provide everyone’s needs and hence no need to engage in shoddy deals to make money.

“Once God has called you, he would equip you; he is able to provide, just stay focused.” He stressed.

The inductee and his family were advised to follow the example of Bartimaeus and seek the Lord Jesus Christ for direction in their Ministry, “by that you would make your way prosperous.”

INDUCTION RITE

The Chairperson Rev. Victor O. Abbey assisted by the Clerk of Presbytery, Rev. William Quaye and members of the Presbytery Council the induction service.

Rev. George Nortey Odonkor and his wife, in their remarks thanked everyone who has contributed in their lives in one way or the other.

They again thanked all those present and wished God’s blessing upon them.

Rev. G. N. Odonkor is a native of Teshie and Larteh Akuapem and was born on 1 January 1955 at Asuoyaa, near Koforidua to Stephen Theo Odonkor Annang (deceased) and Mad. Lydia Akua Ansaah.

Rev.Odonkor from 1991 to 1992 took part in the PCG Lay Preachers Training Course and later was trained as a Catechist at the Catechist Training Center at RTC-Abetifi from 1994 to 1996.

He had his Ministerial training at the Trinity Theological Seminary between 2000 and 2003 where he was awarded a Diploma in Ministry. He followed up at the same Seminary for his Bachelor in Theology (BTh) from 2007 to 2009. He was Ordained in 2005 having earlier been Commissioned in 2003.

He is married to Mrs. Florence Odonkor and are blessed with five Children.

Other dignitaries present at the occasion included Ministers and Catechists as well as the District Lay Representatives.
