The Rev. Victor Okoe Abbey, Ga Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, with the assistance of the Clerk of Presbytery, Rev. William Quaye officiated a ceremony in Accra to elevate the Taifa Congregation and other congregations in its environs to a District status as Taifa District.
The newly created District is the 34th District in the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
The congregations within the new Taifa District are; New Legon (Oko), Logos (Achimota College), Pokuase, Grace (North Taifa), Ebenezer (CFC), Trinity (East Taifa), Salem (New Taifa), Vision (Point One), Abuom (Kwabenya) and King David Presbyterian Congregation.
The occasion was also use to induct into office the Rev. Mrs. Esther Oduro as the District Minister of the newly elevated Taifa District
ELEVATION RITE
Rev. Abbey assisted by the Clerk performing the rite of elevation reminded the new District that every growth or advancement comes with responsibilities, saying as they get themselves ready to sit with their peers on the Presbytery Council, they should remember to fulfill their responsibilities as a District.
The Chairperson added that the strength and ability of the new District to carry out its responsibilities are provided for by our heavenly Father whose grace and mercy have brought them thus far.
SERMON
Rev. Victor Abbey preaching the sermon on the theme; ‘The Workings of God’ (John 2:1-11), thanked the members of the New Achimota District and the New Town District for the work over the years which has given birth to the Taifa District of the PCG.
On the sermon, the Chairperson said Christ was invited to the wedding ceremony and that was a good example of the couple, which should be emulated by all Christian. He noted that in this life, if Christ is permitted to manage and direct the steps of man all will be will.
“If Christians fail to invite Christ in the life, life will not be smooth in society” he stressed.
Rev. Victor Abbey called on the Church to be obedient to the Word of God, so that there will be no need for deliverance in the Church today as each Christian can Pray and receive answers to their prayer.
The Chairperson was worried that the Church in Ghana today is not able to transform society, adding that the Church should be ashamed of itself that it is not able to change the negative happening in society.
District Minister’s Address
Rev. Mrs. Esther Oduro, the new District Minister of Taifa District in her address appreciated the General Assembly Council, the Ga Presbytery Chairperson and his Council respectively for accepting the proposal for the elevation.
She saluted all the forbears, Ordained and the Lay who once worked in the District for they dedicated service which has brought the Taifa District thus far. Adding that the New Achimota District will continue to be their mother and was full of appreciation for their patience in nurturing them to maturity.
‘As I assume the office of the District Minister with effect of January 2016, I pray that our District will grow to become a model District of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana”,’ she articulated.
Rev. Mrs. Esther Oduro appeal to her colleague Agents to lend her their supporting hand to make the newly Taifa District one of the best in the Ga Presbytery.
