Upon assumption of office as the Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery, the Office of the Clerk of Presbytery in collaboration with the Departmental Director of the ESR planned a number of ecumenical visits to introduce the new Chairperson, Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, to our ecumenical partners and some institutions. These visits included the heads of other churches, institutions like the BSG, CCG, the Greater Accra Police Commander etc.
6th November, 2020 – Visit to the Methodist Bishop, Tema Dioceses
On the said date, the Chairperson, in the company of the Clerk of Presbytery, Rev. Solomon Nii Mensah-Adjei, the ESR Director Rev. Lawrence Kwesi Tete and the District Minister of Tema Community One, paid a courtesy call on the Methodist Diocesan Bishop of Tema, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ofori Akyea. The Chairperson and his entourage were met on arrival by the Bishop Himself, the Diocesan Secretary Very Rev. Ebenezer Popson, the Superintendent Minister of Tema and the Diocesan Youth Organizer.
The discussions centered around the areas of jurisdiction of the two churches, creating a better and improved partnership, contribution of the two bodies towards peace and sustenance of peace at all times and how the two regional religious leaders can partner in their Christian duties of building the faith of members and winning more souls for the Lord. Visit To The Former Moderator Very Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey
The Chairperson and his entourage paid a courtesy call the same day on Very Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, a former Moderator of the General Assembly. The former Principal Officer had the opportunity to share his experiences with the Chairperson and his team after which prayers were said for both parties.
Ecumenical Visit Day Two (2)- 19th November, 2020
Day 2 of the Chairperson’s visit took him and his team to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander. DCOP Mr. Afful Boakye Yiadom and his deputy, DCOP Mr. Emmanuel Afriyie Sakyi who is also a Presbyterian and a member of the Frafraha Victory Congregation. The Chairperson was accompanied on this occasion by the Clerk of Presbytery and the Director of ESR.
The purpose of the visit as noted was to formally introduce the chairperson to the Greater Accra Police Command. The discussions centered around creating a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the forth-coming elections, peaceful co-existence, security and building a better relationship between the Church and the Ghana Police.
The Commander took opportunity to brief the delegation on the preparation of the Greater Regional Police Command toward the forth coming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Prayers were said for the Commander and his team.
Visit to Bible Society of Ghana (BSG)
The second institution to be visited on the same day was the Bible Society of Ghana. The Chairperson and his team were met on arrival by the General Secretary Rev. Dr. Enoch Aryee-Atta and the Management of the BSG.
Discussions as usual centered on relationship between the Ga Presbytery and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Bible Society of Ghana.
The General Secretary informed the delegation of the launch of the Esahie Bible for the people of Sehwi (Sefwi) and the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Dangme Bible to be held at PCG Congregation at Dodowa and Prayer session being organized at Osu Ebenezer Church hall for the forth coming elections on 26th November, 2020.
The General Secretary lamented the very slow pace of purchase of the Ga Bible and sought the support of the Chairperson and the Ga Presbytery to encourage congregational members to patronize the purchase and usage of the Ga Bible.
He also touched on some other programmes such as literacy program to train facilitators and urged the Presbytery to take keen interest in that program. He also made reference to the Trauma Healing program and indicated that the Clerk of Presbytery and ESR director of the Presbytery are qualified Trauma Healing Facilitators and encouraged the Presbytery to use them effectively. He finally touched on the 2020 Bible Week Celebration under the theme: “Preparing for the future: The Bible as a guide.”
